GICD started as a modest effort in the month of May 2005 with 4 children for helping children with cerebral palsy has now transformed into a full-fledged centre. The Global Institute for Childhood Disability (GICD), the only one of its kind in Northern India provides physiotherapy, occupational therapy, neurotherapy, speech, audiology and special education under one roof for Cerebral Palsy and Autism Children. In a short span of 9 years, we have grown to approximately 100+ regular children and a dedicated staff. Thousands of children have benefitted from the treatment from the OPD Centre.

This unique and much-needed facility in Amritsar City provides hope to hundreds of children with developmental disabilities through a carefully designed scientific program to improve cognition and neuro-muscular co-ordination. Often times, due to ignorance of the care-givers or lack of facilities, these children are condemned to lead miserable lives, confined to bed with total dependence on others for their basic necessities. Cerebral Palsy, Autism & Multi disability children can lead meaningful lives of self-dependence through carefully administered holistic treatment.

Through proper training, guidance and a variety of rehabilitation programs, these children can grow into responsible adults, capable of utilizing their unique abilities and contributing for the betterment of the society.

GICD, Amritsar has already benefitted dozens of children who are coming regularly for treatment. Now more and more parents are turning to GICD for help. The need was felt to increase the facilities by providing better infrastructure and equipment. GICD now has additional equipments, increased number of occupational therapists, physiotherapists, neurotherapists and several rooms for treatment including speech, audiology and special education among other rehabilitation facilities.

Earlier GICD was only treating Cerebral Palsy Children. Keeping in mind the growing needs of our children, we introduced a new wing of special education school "GICD Little Angels School" for special children with Cerebral Palsy, Autism and Mentally Retarded Children. These children are denied admission by the regular schools due to their special needs.

GICD, Amritsar emphasized the concept of providing a complete home environment at the school, where children could regain their lost childhood and learn to live in Society in a acceptable way. GICD works especially with people who are further marginalized by poverty, stress or other factors. We also conduct regular awareness programs, seminars, workshops & rallies at various places. We run an OPD Centre everyday between 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. The poor and needy children are treated entirely free, while parents who can afford pay reasonable fees for the treatment.

GICD also helped parents of the special children to form an association called "Amrit Parivaar Parents Association".
